This department provides dedicated and excellent service to our customers by providing reliable and safe methods of solid and recyclable waste collections for residential and commercial customers while ensuring a clean and healthy environment for the City's residents and commercial establishments.
Garbage Collection
The City provides garbage and trash pick up on a weekly basis. All trash and garbage must be in City-issued carts and by the road by 8:00 a.m. the morning of pick-up.
The City shall have the authority to collect refuse at such times and intervals as deemed necessary for the health and sanitation of the community.
Refuse shall be collected by the City provided that the following conditions are complied with:
- Branches of trees shall be freed of all side branches and shall not exceed 4 feet in length nor 4 inches in diameter.
- Trash from yard raking and clean up shall be placed in biodegradable paper bags (Available at most grocery and home improvement stores), not exceeding sixty-five (65) pounds per bag or City-issued carts or other trash cans or securely tied in bundles in such a manner as to prevent scattering of the content.
- Newsprint and other type of paper shall be placed in paper cartons or other suitable containers or securely tied in bundles in such a manner as to prevent scattering of the content.
- Building materials will NOT be picked up.
These materials can be taken by the homeowner to the Berkeley County Landfill which is located off of Old US 52 going to Moncks Corner. They are open Monday—Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Trash Collection
Thursdays Brown goods pick-up (i.e. mattresses, furniture, padding)
Fridays White goods pick-up (i.e. metals, washing machines, water heaters, lawn mowers)
Streets & Sidewalks
A large percentage of all streets within the City of Hanahan belong to the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Major repair to roadways and to storm drain structures belonging to SCDOT are referred to that agency for repair.
Public Works Department oversees the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of street name signs throughout the City. If you should notice any street signs down, please contact Public Works. |
