Supporting Our Most Vulnerable Neighbors
More than 20% of the children in the United States are neurodivergent, and nearly 7 million adults aged 65 or older are living with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Nearly 60% of those affected are at risk of wandering or becoming lost.
At the Hanahan Police Department, we understand the challenges families face in caring for loved ones with special needs. Whether it’s due to Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism, or other neurodiverse conditions, these individuals may require extra support in emergency situations.
HART Makes a Difference
We created the Hanahan At-Risk Residents Table (HART) to help officers quickly and effectively assist individuals with unique needs during times of crisis.
Through HART, families and caregivers can share vital information with our department to help us:
-
Identify individuals who may have difficulty communicating
-
Locate missing persons more quickly
-
Respond appropriately in high-stress situations
-
Build trust and understanding with our most vulnerable residents
-
Keep our community safe
Help Us Help Your Loved Ones
If you have a family member or loved one who may benefit from the HART program, we encourage you to register them with our department.
