Position Title: Court Clerk

General Summary:
Assist and carry out clerical tasks in the City of Hanahan court.
Essential Job Functions include the following:

Prepare a docket or calendar of cases to be called which includes data entry by entering tickets and warrants.

Transmit documents to appropriate courts.

Type warrants and courtesy summons.

Answer incoming calls while performing various related duties to the public such.
-
Explain court procedures and assist the public with related processes as necessary.

Record case disposition, court orders, and arrangement for payment of court fees.

Collect court fees or fines and records amounts collected.

Perform general office duties as required, including typing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, establishing and maintaining filing systems.

Assist police officers when they need help with court documents or have questions about procedure.

Research old warrants and/or tickets for the public and police.

Process expungements.

Vacuum and provide general cleaning of the court office area and courtroom.

Perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
-
Ability to plan, organize, and support the activity of others.
-
Ability to deal effectively with the public.
-
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the city.

Ability to use MSOffice suite of products.
-
Skilled in written and oral communication.
Educational Experience and Qualifications:
-
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
-
One year certificate from college or technical school preferred.
-
Two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination thereof.

Notary is preferred.

Starting hourly range: $18.92 - $24.47. The City of Hanahan offers participation in the State Retirement plan (PEBA.) Normal office hours for this position are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 8:00am – 4:30pm. Court Clerk may be requested to attend regularly scheduled and any special meetings of City Council outside of regular office hours. Court Clerk may be asked to work additional or different hours or days to meet operation needs.
