Fire Chief, City of Hanahan Fire Department

Chief Christopher Zak is a seasoned fire service executive currently serving as Fire Chief for the City of Hanahan Fire Department, where he oversees all operational and administrative functions during a period of leadership transition.

With more than 35 years of dedicated service in the fire and emergency services, Chief Zak is driven by a passion for elevating emergency response capabilities and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a commitment to professional excellence, customer service, and ethical leadership.

Chief Zak is recognized nationally as both an educator and contributor to the modern fire service. He has presented at major fire service conferences across the country and is a published author on leadership development and organizational culture within the fire service. In addition, he has assisted the International Society of Fire Service Instructors (ISFSI)and the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) in the development and validation of instructional curriculum used by departments nationwide.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration from Columbia Southern University and is credentialed as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) by the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE).
