Permits required:

• Building construction, reconstruction, alteration and repairs

• Swimming pool construction, reconstruction, alteration and repairs

• Electrical construction, reconstruction, alteration and repairs

• Plumbing construction, reconstruction, alteration and repairs

• Mechanical construction, reconstruction, alteration and repairs

• Gas construction, reconstruction, alteration and repairs

Construction plans are reviewed for conformance with:

• 2018 International Building Code, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fuel Gas, and Fire Prevention Codes with SC Amendments

• 2018 International Residential Code with SC Amendments

• 2017 National Electrical Code with SC Amendments

• 2017 A117.1 Accessibility Code

• Conformance with Federal Floodplain Management requirements is also verified through the Plan Review process

• Compliance with the Berkeley County Stormwater Ordinance 

Contractors obtaining permits please note that all licenses are verified prior to the issuance of a permit.

• Required to have a State of South Carolina Contractor’s License

• City of Hanahan Business License for any type of construction. All licenses are verified prior to a building permit being issued.

• Copy of the contract

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR HOMEOWNERS: If a contractor requests that you get the permit, PLEASE DON’T. The contractor may not be properly bonded, licensed, qualified, or want to be responsible for their work.
