PARK IT HERE!

PARK IT HERE

Park it Here, Hanahan!

We’re One Great City with Two New Parks.

Learn more about our capital campaigns to enhance Hawks Nest and create Steward Street Park.

We answered the call for more outdoor recreation space and invested $15 million to create two new world-class parks - Hawks Nest and Steward Street - bringing our city’s total park count to 11.

These best-in-class destinations showcase our community’s passion for outdoor play, elevate our active lifestyle offerings, and reinforce our commitment to higher-level health and wellness.  That’s why we invite you to Park it Here!

To support significant enhancements to Hawks Nest Park and finalize the creation of Steward Street Park, we’re launching two capital campaigns and seeking private donations to help put our amazing new parks on the map. We’re also establishing Friends of the Park Giving Societies to support ongoing programming and other essentials.

Hawks Nest’s Home, Haven & Heart Capital Campaign

Nothing short of 53 acres of awesomeness, Hawks Nest opened in May 2023 and is located on a former naval weapons site. The park features everything from tennis, basketball, and volleyball to walking trails, dog parks, and fishing ponds, not to mention a regulations size, dual-purpose turf field for football and soccer.

For the finishing touches, we’re adding four covered pickleball courts with fencing and lighting adjacent to the 2,850-square-foot pavilion to create a spectacular Pickleball Courts & Pavilion Complex. We’re also adding state-of-the-art stadium seating for 583 fans at the dual-purpose turf field to establish our very own sports arena, Hawks Nest Stadium.

Steward Street’s Adventures in Serenity Capital Campaign

Currently under construction, Steward Street is scheduled to open in late Summer 2024. The five-acre waterfront park will provide water access, green spaces, and more, including a fishing pier and alcove, a state-of-the-art kayak launch, and a large open-air pavilion perfect for family and community gatherings.

Two significant naming opportunities will help offset the costs of on-and-by-the-water construction and support the park’s first-rate amenities. A 3,000-square-foot open-air pavilion with lights, ceiling fans, a gas fireplace, and a 1,000-square-foot Courtyard frame is a stunning gathering place for families, organizations, and community events. Equally stunning is the 110-foot Promenade overlooking the water with an 18-foot covered fishing alcove, a 10x40 fishing pier, and a 30x15 floating dock with a kayak launch.

“We didn’t have the space, and now we do. We’re adding two impressive parks, one on each side of the city, giving people of all ages and abilities world-class options for casual and organized recreation.”
